Title: repeated "Found New Hardware"
Post by Fu on Jun 24th, 2008, 10:54pm
I am doing a trial with version 3.4

On the client side (Win XP SP2), whenever I connect to the shared USB device, Windows pops up the "Found New Hardware" dialog and wants to install driver again. It does that every time again, even though I did install it previously.

As our normal PC user would not have privileges to actually do the driver installation, this is a breaking point.

Is there any known solution to this?

regards,
Fu

Hi,
Let's check how it works on real PC.
Just plug device to any PC (without USB over Network installed). As result it sows "Found new hardware" dialog.
Please install drivers.
Then unplug the device and plug it to another USB port. Please check if "Found new hardware" dialog appears.

Thanks.

Hi Andrew,

on the client machine, the device was working fine previously without asking for reinstalling the driver.
Though, the driver is somehow strange, as that one needs to install it for each USB port separately, which I had done previously.

Hi Fu,
Very interesting. What USB device do you use?
Any chance to share it over the Internet for us so we can connect it by our USB over Network Client, reproduce the issue and fix it?
Thanks.

I have a same trouble for newest version (Ver. 3.5.1).

When I used a trial software (unknown version), I didn't have any such a trouble.

The possible cause of this trouble comes from the fact that the device instance ID changes for every connection.

I don't know why the ID changes for every connection.

Current version of USB Net sets Device Instance ID sequentially. We will implement new Device ID assignation mechanism in one of the next releases of USB Over Network.
